Inspired by that iconic and prescient quotation attributed to the British Foreign Secretary on the eve of the Great War:

"The lamps are going out all over Europe, we shall not see them lit again in our life-time"

The Great War started 100 years ago, today. 

The trauma it engendered earned it the epithet "the War to end all wars."

This has not proved to be so.
